Single screen local Cinema/theatre. Very old school style, loved and supported by the community as it hosts lots of events. They tend to show more cerebral films than big blockbusters.
Tiny, tiny, tiny, seats. Nothing like watch g the movie while straddling the person I front of you between your legs. Seats for ants!Good selection of classic films and fun events. Also the best sugar laden cheap and dirty whisky sours.
Has turned into one woman's weird pet project, weird fundraising campaigns where the city basically bought this lady a theater. Now trying to avoid paying taxes. On top of it all, very little original art house programming. Instead, they play The Room and Spice World each month so the most recent wave of hipsters moving down from Regina to blow through their savings in 3 months can go be ironic. So many programming nights taken up with weird trashy events where local '''comedians''' (loud theater regulars from what I can tell) ''heckle" bad movies. Often the same bad movies.Weird. Really weird. Could be a normal art house / B theater with a programming/ownership change. Would have many more regular patrons if people could expect a decent, different, independent film each night. Instead, sometimes you show up and the event is 19 year olds yelling obscenities at a Tim Allen movie. The reason this theater needs donations to be viable is because they decided to add weird artsy live performance elements to their repertoire at the exact time their competition art house theaters closed. Instead of being the only art house movie theater in town, they ended up as some weird amateur hour live event space that does movies sometimes.
Those movies you wish you could have seen in theatres when they first came out? You can probably catch em here. Local/small filmmakers who want to gain some followers? This place puts on smaller films fairly often. Oh, and the concession is super awesome!
