I have an overall positive impression of Canadian Tire in general, and they have some excellent sale prices if you're able if plan ahead. One thing I don't appreciate at all are the giant signs on the doors informing customers that they are not allowed to carry backpacks in the store. I live in a city where I get around by bus, train, or on foot. If I have more than one stop to make while running errands, it only makes sense that I would bring along something to carry around my purchases without toting multiple plastic bags. And of course, everywhere else you go, you're being encouraged to bring your own reusable bags for environmental reasons. I've seen the signs on the doors and I don't care. Fortunately, none of the staff have confronted me over my choice to ignore the signs. If I'm buying tools from the locked cages, I have the choice of getting the item last and proceeding to the checkout right away, otherwise the staff will take the item up front for me to pick up right before I go to the checkout. There is obviously already a policy in place to help prevent people from sneaking off into a corner to tuck the goods into their bag, so why the signs on the front door putting me on edge before I've even entered the store? Why put your staff in a position where they seem exasperated when I ask for a power tool from the cage and they see my bag? Make it easier for them, make it more welcoming for me, and everyone wins.Take down the signs, and tell your staff not to be snarky with people who have the audacity to carry their own bag. If I have to choose between making a special trip without my bag just to accommodate such a dated, draconian, and ineffective policy, I'll just shop elsewhere. As soon as you choose to treat people like potential criminals because of things that are not at all indicative of criminal behavior, you've lost sight of the goal.
I think this is my favorite CT location of all, excellent staff and service, from a chain known for poor customer service.To the guy complaining about not being allowed to take his backpack in, you can just leave it at customer service, right by the entrance, and pick it up when you check out. That way you can still bring your own bag, have it to carry all your other items you need and still abide by a store policy, which has been proven effective at reducing shop lifting, or at least stopping many of those who do.. Draconian and ineffective? Incorrect. Try common and largely effective.
Great location and easy to commute to by Skytrain. Items are usually in stock and I rarely have to line up for checkout (could be the time of day, I usually visit around 4 to 5 pm). Staff are friendly and super chill.
Robbie at Canadian Tire Cambie and 7th is incredible! He helped us out with our needs and went above and beyond our request by doing store research, general forum research, and providing innovative solutions to our hardware problem (he found us a solution to get metal to conduct our hardware wearable through key shavings or some sort of other scrap metal around). Great guy and great service! Even came up to us later to give us another idea.
A single star because no option to give less. Will never give another cent to this chain. I don't think there was a person with an IQ over 10 in the store. Staff was rude, not helpful and couldn't figure out how to call someone who did know anything. Eventually found a manager, which took about 10 mins of waiting. He said those are locked away, but no problem, go to the cashier upstairs, I'll have this sent there. 15 minutes later I ask and it was sent to the other side of the store and they refused to bring it to the side they told me to go to. I went downstairs to Best Buy, purchased the same item at the same price and got free accessories. Canadian Fail!
